ABOUT DARREN

Noted for his versatile singing in the baritone and bass-baritone repertoire, Darren Templeton is an emerging artist and current graduate student at The Ohio State University. He was last heard as Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas and will be heard as Peter in Hansel and Gretel in February in Ohio State University’s Opera Productions. Darren is excited to return to the Ohio Theater with Opera Columbus, where he will make his role debut as Prince Gremin in Eugene Onegin. Set in the 50’s inspired by Hopper paintings and Dior couture, this opera reminds us of love unfulfilled. Darren is making his role debut as Marullo in Rigoletto, with Mobile Opera in 2024. Darren is also a recent winner of Ohio State University’s Vocal Concerto Contest and the Wilson Competition. In 2023, Darren made his professional and role debut with Opera Columbus, in Columbus, OH, as Count Ceprano in Rigoletto. In 2022, Darren was the bass soloist in M. Haydn’s Requiem in c with Trinity United Methodist and sang the role of King Balthazar in Amahl and the Night Visitors in Columbus, OH. Most recently, he sang the National Anthem at the MLS’ Columbus Crew’s Military Appreciation Night in Columbus, OH. During the summer of 2023, Darren studied opera abroad in Germany and Vienna and performed Korngold’s “Sonnet fur Wien” in a summer concert at the Mozarthaus in Vienna. During the summer of 2024, Darren is excited to announce he will be attending the leading summer music program in Europe, the American Institute of Music Studies Opera Program (AIMS) for six weeks held in Graz, Austria. Prior to attending Ohio State, Darren served 27 years in the U.S. Army and Marine Corps, retiring in 2022 as a Major.
